Feminist Book Club is a monthly book subscription service that offers its members great selections written exclusively by women. This subscription service is unique in a variety of ways. It's a female-owned business, it's community-driven, and it hosts an actual book club! Founded by Renee Powers in 2018, FBC has quickly become one of the most popular and influential book subscription services. They have been featured on Oprah Daily, Forbes, Shondaland, Glamour, and Cosmopolitan. FBC also offers much more than just good reads! Their podcast is available on streaming platforms to inform listeners about the myriad of social justice issues currently happening in our world. With an online book club, subscription service, blog, and podcast, there are several ways to connect and enjoy the insight FBC has to offer.

How Much Is It?

There are several subscriptions to pick and choose from for any budget.  All choices come with awesome perks to give subscribers an experience worth their money!
$35/month Physical Book Membership:  With this subscription you get one physical copy of a book every month, plus a pamphlet, a cute personal note from the founder, bookmarks, stickers, and online access to live video meets and discussions with authors. A new change now allows members to choose if they want to receive Fiction or Non-fiction books every month, so you don’t have to worry if you’re into one genre over the other.  (Loveletters&Lattes personal fave and RECOMMENDED)
$25/month Audiobook Membership: This subscription includes an audiobook (no physical copy) plus the same online community access.
$40/month Best of Both Worlds Membership:  This subscription allows you to get both a physical book and audiobook monthly.  You also get every additional perk that comes with both subscriptions, the pamphlet, note from the founder, bookmarks, and online access.
$12/month Virtual Book Club Membership: If you’re just interested in connecting with the online community then this subscription is for you.  This allows subscribers online access to member discussions, workshops, live chats, and author meets.  However, books are not provided with this option.
With each membership, a portion of your subscription is donated to organizations focused on social justice.

Reasons To Join Feminist Book Club

I’ve been receiving books each month from Feminist Book Club for about 4 months now, and I must say that I am officially in love with book subscription services.  There are so many unique aspects about this particular brand that I love, but I’m just going to name a few of my favorites.
  1. Attention To Detail and Amount of Care to Subscribers

The personalized notes from the founder Renee goes a long way to make subscribers feel valued.  You will look forward to seeing that little note, which is always addressed to you personally.

2. Community Oriented

The democratically structured community is a wonderful aspect because it gives subscribers the feeling that they are part of a more intimate book club experience.  Subscribers are given a lot of autonomy and control over what they want to read.  You have the ability to vote on which books are read each month and the option to choose between fiction and non-fiction.  As an avid book lover - with a very specific taste- I was skeptical that a subscription service could deliver books that I would like month by month.  It’s amazing that there hasn’t been a book they’ve sent that I haven't enjoyed, and my reading horizons have increased for the first time in years.

3. Commitment to Social Justice

Feminist Book Club doesn’t just “talk-the-talk” about pursuing social justice in the world, they really do their best to contribute to actionable change. It is well known that FBC donates a portion of their proceeds to organizations like, Rights4Girls and Safe BAE.  As if the captivating books weren’t enough, they make your money worthwhile by supporting marginalized feminine demographics.

In summary, yes I do think this particular subscription service is worth it. Your money will be well spent on a legitimate and recognized brand with important goals.

What Comes In a FBC Subscription Box

In June, FBC ended their subscription box membership.  Don’t fret, because you can still buy previous subscription boxes, a surprise box or the new quarterly boxes on their Shop All page.  These boxes come with physical copies of books, stickers, and little gifts relating to the book theme. For example, the Special Edition Fall Box comes with three thriller books AND a tote bag!  I’ve heard they make great gifts for loved ones who are book lovers.
